Another Season of Outdoor Music, Art & Fun: Lawn on D Opens May 1

The Boston weather forecast seems to be cooperating with the opening week of the outdoor interactive event space known as The Lawn On D, now entering its fifth summer. The verdant 2.7 acres are right next to the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center (BCEC) and, as of May 1, will offer another season full of music, art, movie screenings, and games open to the public, as well as rental opportunities for private functions.

Owned and operated by the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority, Lawn on D is “powered by Citizens Bank” and was designed to add to the vitality of the South Boston Waterfront and South Boston neighborhoods by offering state-of-the-art facilities for events and a schedule of performances, dance parties, sporting contests and the immensely popular Open Lawn hours.

With free Wi-Fi and a colorful and comfy collection of lounge chairs, picnic tables the Lawn On D is an optimal spot to hang out and relax with friends and family. Open Lawn times span from early morning until 10 p.m., and visitors rave about the fun to be had playing games like giant Jenga, bocce, and cornhole and especially swaying on the circular swings that glow once the sun goes down.

The live music calendar kicks off on the evening of Thursday, May 3 with multi-instrumentalist Jason Cardinal followed by a weekend’s worth of Cinco de Mayo festivities including mariachi music, Mexican food and “Southie Ritas” from Cazadores Tequila.

Throughout the summer and into the fall (their Pumpkin Palooza was a big hit last Halloween!) Lawn On D encourages community engagement with innovative arts programming, family-friendly activities, and plenty of down-time with adult beverages and tasty snacks available from the concessions run by Rebel Restaurants.
