First Night in the Seaport

Fireworks bursting over Boston Harbor, sparkling sculptures carved from ice, people dressed to the nines for themed parties and cruises—the Seaport will be host to a flurry of activity on New Year’s Eve. Bundle up and join in on the fun!

Ice Sculptures

Stop by to envy the frozen works of art carved by the steady hands of local artists. Each sculpture is a feat as many participants begin to plan their designs months in advance. In years past, ice sculptures have been known to be as large as 20 blocks of ice—at 350 pounds a block, that’s a pretty hefty chunk! Ice sculptures will be on display on December 31 and January 1 in two locations: Seaport Common (85 Northern Avenue) and Courthouse Square (60 Seaport Boulevard). Dress warm and come pick out a frosty favorite!

Midnight Fireworks

The midnight fireworks are back! Due to lack of funding, last year’s New Year’s Eve display was cancelled. Lucky for us, the event is back on and the count down to 2018 will result in a colorful show visible from the Seaport. This year there will two barges—one near Long Wharf and the other by the Seaport district. Find a waterfront view and watch the dark winter sky flash with color.

Hotel Parties

There are a number of ticketed events happening at Seaport locales, including Social Register, Aloft Hotel’s aristocratic restaurant and bar, which opened this year. The Yotel has committed to a Casino Royale theme complete with roulette and black jack tables, “Shaken not Stirred” martinis and cocktails, and tunes by DJ Hectik. Buy ahead and ring in the New Year inside—with champagne, of course.

All aboard!

Get a front row seat to the First Night firework display on one of Boston’s cruises. Browse the New Year’s packages that range from party atmospheres aboard Mass Bay Lines and Classic Harbor Line to more low-key dinner packages by Sailo. Have you been looking for an opportunity to break out your flapper dress? Music City Boston Yacht is going back in time to the 1920s with a speakeasy-themed midnight ride.

Other Fun Spots

If a beer hall is what you seek, Harpoon will be open until 1 a.m. with a food display that will honor New Year’s traditions from across the globe. Hit the lanes at King’s in the Seaport. The newest location will be decked out in a Willy Wonka theme with “Scrumdiddlyumptious Food and Drink Specials.”

Wherever you end up, we wish you a very happy New Year! We can’t wait to see you in 2018!
